Service Description

This training course aims to equip care home staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent fires, identify hazards, respond effectively to fire alarms, and safely evacuate residents in the event of a fire. Throughout this new course our fire service expert instructors will cover: Fire Prevention - Understanding Fire Risks; Educating staff on common fire hazards in care homes, such as electrical equipment, cooking appliances, and smoking materials. Preventive Measures: Implementing regular maintenance checks, safe storage of flammable materials, and enforcing no-smoking policies. Identifying Hazards and Risk - Training staff to recognise potential fire hazards in the care environment. How to conduct regular risk assessments to evaluate the likelihood and impact of fire hazards. Discovering a Fire - Steps to take upon discovering a fire, including raising the alarm and ensuring personal safety. Fire Extinguishers: Proper use of fire extinguishers and when it is safe to use them. Responding to a Fire Alarm - Procedures for responding to a fire alarm, including immediate actions and communication protocols. The Importance of Fire Doors and Compartmentation - What is a fire door? Are they really that important? what difference does a closed fire door make? Methods of Evacuation - General Evacuation Procedures -Safe and orderly evacuation methods for all residents and staff. Progressive Horizontal Evacuation: Moving residents to a safe area on the same floor, away from the fire, before considering vertical evacuation. PEEPS (Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans): Developing individualised evacuation plans for residents with specific needs, ensuring their safe evacuation during an emergency.
